Beyond the "Working Length"

Traditionally the man criteria when measuring the quality of a root canal treatment is "did we get to the apex?" While achieving the correct working length is certainly important, other factors also play vital roles in obtaining success.

When these factors are overlooked, just getting the working length may still lead to failure. These factors include: three dimensional instrumentation, distinctive irrigation and medicating regimens in necrotic and vital cases, coronal contamination during or post endodontic treatment and overly aggressive root canal preparation.
